Stennel was a holder at Fort Hold late in the Second Interval and early in the Third Pass.

Biography

Stennel caught the flu but recovered. Lord Holder Bemin instructed Stennel to find all sick people in the hold who had been staying in their quarters, then bring them to the beds for treatment. Stennel was also instructed to carry the dead off to mass graves in the garden.

When Stennel was assigned as head of ground crews for Threadfall, he trained the crews to spot burrows. Stennel told H'nez that, according to the Records, if a burrow isn't spotted within eight hours, the best hope is to fire the whole valley around it. When H'nez asked who told him that, Stennel told H'nez that he had read the Hold Records himself, and they said that “It happened about ten times in the last Turn of the Second Pass.”

Stennel compared a thread burrow to a fire, in that either one will destroy every living thing around it in short order,
