When Rantou brought his grandson Sebell to Harper Hall to be an apprentice for Masterharper Robinton, he reminded Robinton that he and Merelan, who had been born in a hold very near to Pierie Hold, had been cousins.
Personality and Traits[]
Robinton never forgot how upset his father Petiron had been when he learned that Rantou preferred to work as a lumberman rather than be a musician.
Despite having no formal training at all, Rantou could produce the most amazing sounds out of a multiple reed-pipe. When Petiron had offered to teach him to read music, Rantou told him that all he needed was for someone to play it out once for him.
Both Petiron and Robinton - even though Robinton was very young at the time - had been amazed that, even though Rantou was a natural musician, who managed cadenzas after one hearing and made all the gitars, flutes, drums and other instruments used in the hold, didn't want to be a musician, because it was just a hobby for him.
