P'tero was a dragonrider for Telgar Weyr in late in the First Interval and early in the Second Pass. His dragon was blue Ormonth.
Background[]
P'tero took part in the flyover demonstration over Fort Hold. As a show of skill, he dove off his blue dragon Ormonth, who was miming a wounded wing so that Weyrleader K'vin could catch him on his bronze Charanth. In an ill-advised ploy to impress his weyrmate M'leng, he made the leap before K'vin had given the signal. Due to fortuitous circumstances, K'vin just happened to be looking his direction as he leaped and was able to catch him. Unbeknownst to the crowd, P'tero was still attached to Ormonth by extra long fighting straps and was in no real danger, although he could have risked deep bruising or a broken ankle if Charanth hadn't been so skilled a flyer.
After landing, his weyrmate scolded him far more effectively than their Weyrleader could for "putting my heart where my mouth was" and risking his dragon.
While on a sweep ride, P'tero and Ormonth saw an emergency signal in the snow outside a woodman's hold. They saved Iantine, who had been residing there, and brought him to Telgar Weyr.
When Telgar Weyr visited the Southern Continent to check up on the grubs, P’tero and M’leng took their dragons hunting. They were attacked by lions after spending some time alone together. Ormonth called for help, which Meranath heard instantly, bringing assistance from the Weyr. In the end, the battle was nine dragons against fourteen adult felines. M'leng's shoulder was clawed while P'tero received wounds to his legs and buttocks. M'leng's injuries were not as severe, since P'tero had inadvertently shielded the green rider with his own body.
P'tero received a painting of the event done by Iantine, and was chagrined that the painting made him appear more heroic than he’d actually been.
In an attempt to show his bravery after having been attacked by the lions, he tried to get into the First Fall fighting wings, but was grounded by K'vin. His buttocks were still injured and thus he was not permitted to fly.
