The Moth was one of the shuttles brought to Pern on the Yokohama.
Background
The Moth was flown from the Yokohama to Pern by Nabhi Nabol and Bart Lemos.
When Nabol was approached to fly a shuttle mission to collect material from the Red Star's tail, he insisted on flying the Moth, which needed to be recommissioned.
Something went wrong with the instrumentation on the way back to Pern, though Nabol continuously insisted nothing was wrong. The Moth approached Pern at the wrong angle and crashed into the water in the Ring Islands, in water too deep for the dolphins to recover.
