Mara was the first one in her group to get sick, followed by her mate Kenner and her baby Koria. When the group encountered Master Harper Zist, Cayla and their baby daughter Carissa while they were looking for Shunned, Yona told them about Mara and her family.
Cayla tried to help the group's sick, but when baby Jenni died, Malir sent Zist, Cayla and Carissa away so they wouldn't be killed by the others.
