Lord Warder was a title given to a person who was appointed to run a Hold in place of an underaged heir.
Description[]
A Lord Warder, for all intents and purposes, had the same power and responsibilities as a Lord Holder. They acted in the name of the official Lord Holder, effectively serving as a regent until the official Lord Holder had matured enough to take hold in their own right. Lord Warders oversaw the education of their ward, preparing them for their future responsibilities. However, the official Lord Holder was still required to be approved by the Conclave of Lord Holders. In difficult political situations, this could mean that the Lord Warder would remain in power even after their ward came of age.

Eighth Interval/Ninth Pass[]
While at Ruatha Hold, Fax would swore to relinquish Ruatha to the rule of his unborn child, should it be male and live. Fax was killed in a duel after attempting to retract that oath. However, Fax's newborn child, Jaxom, survived his mother's death during childbirth. With the only other heir, Lessa, choosing to renounce her claim to become Weyrwoman, F'lar, a bronze rider, requested Lytol, a former dragonrider, to serve as Lord Warder on Jaxom's behalf. Lytol's appointment was accepted, and he worked on rebuilding Ruatha and educating Jaxom in his duties. His eventual retirement from the role was delayed due to the Conclave being unlikely to confirm an adult Jaxom in his role. However, Lytol eventually turned over Ruatha after a compromise with the other Lord Holders was reached.
