Lobirn was Masterharper for High Reaches Hold late in the Eighth Interval. His wife was Lotricia. He was a tenor.
Biography[]
Masterharper of the Harpercraft Gennell sent journeyman Robinton to Master Lobirn at High Reaches, where it was hoped that Robinton would "keep Master Lobirn out of more trouble."
When Robinton arrived at High Reaches, Lobirn was not impressed, thinking that it was a bad idea that Robinton had been allowed to walk the tables to journeyman status at 15 Turns. It didn’t help that Robinton towered above the diminutive Masterharper. When Lobirn made several critical comments about Petiron, Robinton was shocked to hear such criticism voiced, especially in front of him.
It came as another shock that, even though Lobirn did not know that Robinton had composed it, it was Robinton's music that Lobirn used extensively. That fact did help Robinton endure Lobirn’s crotchety behavior, his temper, inconsistencies and general dislike of having to break in a “snot-nosed, wet-eared” novice. However, after Lobirn saw how patient Robinton was with some of the more backward students, he began to mellow.
When Lobirn first learned that Robinton's tunes had been copied and sent to every Hold and Hall, he was irate. But, when he disovered that it had been happening since Robinton was three, he howled with laughter.
When Robinton left High Reaches, Lobirn and Lotricia wished him well. After Robinton learned that Lord Holder Faroguy had died and Fax had taken over, Robinton worried what had happened to Lobirn and Lotricia. He later learned that they had had enough warning to manage to escape the Hold before Fax could arrest them.
Personality and Traits[]
Lobirn's features were pulled together in the middle of his wide face as if they should have inhabited a much narrower one, with a shock of heavy, wavy hair with bands of silver - making him look striped. He was almost ludicrous.
