L'vel was a blue dragonrider of Benden Weyr in the early Ninth Pass. His dragon hatched from Ramoth's first clutching.
Biography[]
Many of the candidates for Hatchings at Benden Weyr were impressed by him as he often spoke up to dragonriders years older than him.
Shortly before the hatching, L'vel suggested as a result of the Second Long Interval ending that the younger inhabitants of the Weyr be barred from being candidates on the Hatching Grounds until they reached an age that would allow them to fight Thread, rather than «waste four to five years of a dragon's fighting prime until his rider grows up enough to stand the vigours.»
L'vel's plan was not implemented, and all possible candidates were allowed on to the Hatching Grounds, bar Beterli, who was permanently banned for violent conduct against Keevan, a fellow candidate.
