Harper Hall Fort Hold

Kelsa was a harper late in the Second Interval and early in the Third Pass. She was the first female apprentice at Harper Hall and was a very talented songwriter.

Biography[]

Kelsa, Nonala and Verilan had all been apprentices when Kindan arrived at Harper Hall. They soon became close friends.

While searching Records at Harper Hall, Kindan and Kelsa found references, some of which appeared to have been written by Master Zist, which described how fire lizards had been spotted flaming after eating a particular rock scattered along the shoreline. It was later discovered that this firestone did not explode when it came into contact with water.

During the plague, Kelsa became sick. Conar, who died later, helped take care of her. After the plague, Kelsa was promoted to Journeyman.

After Kelsa was promoted to Master, she married Lord Holder Bemin (Fiona's father) and bore him a son, Kemin.

Personality and Traits[]

Kelsa was prickly, blunt, and gawky, but those traits were overshadowed by her honesty and her kindness. She was also shy, at least initially. So, when she first arrived at the Harper Hall, she had been only too willing to accept the suggestion that she sleep with the kitchen staff. “After all,” she had said reasonably to Kindan when he’d questioned her, “it’s not like there are other girl harpers.” If Kelsa were any less talented or more arrogant, Kindan might have agreed with the senior apprentice that a girl didn’t belong among harpers … but her songs were just too good. With Verilan’s help, Kindan and Kelsa put up a sturdy canvas partition separating the back corner of the large apprentice dormitory from the rest. Inside they placed one of the bunk beds and a chest of drawers for Kelsa and Nonala. The older apprentices were at first wary, then irate that they had to change their lifestyle to accommodate girls.
