Janir was a healer at the College late in the First Pass.
Biography[]
When Tieran was brought to the College for treatment of his watch-wher wounds, Janir assisted Wind Blossom with Tieran's treatment, then monitored the boy’s vital signs, while Latrel supervised the direct transfusion of first Purman's and then Emorra's blood. After Wind Blossom contributed her blood to the transfusions, Janir put Tieran into a fellis-laced sleep then continued monitoring his condition.
Janir and Wind Blossom later discussed the fact that Wind Blossom had been exhibiting signs of senile dementia, and the causes and effects of the disease. Wind Blossom concluded that they should perform biopsies on any new cadavers. Sorka asked Wind Blossom to perform an autopsy on her body after she died; but, when the time came, Wind Blossom could not bring herself to do anything more than perform a cerebral biopsy.
Years later, Janir responded to a planet-wide emergency that Tieran had sent from the Drum Tower, only to find Tieran standing next to the Drum Tower with a live brown fire-lizard in his hand and a dead gold fire lizard on the ground (Lorana's fire lizards, brown Grenn and gold Garth, from late in the Second Interval). During the investigation of the event, Janir was given several assignments, including answering questions from the four corners of Pern. When the investigation concluded, he was asked to assist with the final decontamination and to acquire nitric acid, for emergencies, just in case another dragon or fire-lizard became sick.
Later, Wind Blossom discussed with Tieran, Emorra and Janir her plans for teaching future generations. Their topics included both the bead harness that Grenn had been wearing and the equipment that was going to be placed in the Teaching Rooms that were being built at Benden Weyr.
When Janir's medical skills were not required, he was expected to maintain a stockpile of nitric acid (HNO3) for fighting threadfall.
