Gifflen was a captain of Lord Fax's guard.
At Lord Tarathel's Gather, Gifflen injured Masterharper Robinton, then killed Weyrleader F'lon in a duel. When Larad told his father, Lord Tarathel, that F'lon's death was not an accident, Tarathel passed judgment that Gifflen was to be exiled. However, while Gifflen was being held by C'gan, he was killed when Nip threw a dagger into one of his eyes.
