Fellis is an herb native to Pern. Though the plant has multiple uses, it is best known for its medicinal properties.
Fellis plants differ in size depending on location. In the Northern Continent, Fellis takes the form of small, branchy drooping trees, with fragrant pink flowers. In the Southern Continent, where grubs are well established, the trees are much larger - at Paradise River Hold, Fellis Tree trunks grow larger than 3 men could span with fingers touching. Fellis Trees have clusters of berry-like fruit with tough skins that are boiled and strained to get the juice.
Fellis trees have multiple uses. Fellis wood is used in the production of furniture. Fellis can also produce a deep green dye. However, the main use of fellis is as a narcotic painkiller, used to reduce pain and induce unconsciousness. Fellis juice is commonly used by the Healer Hall for medical treatment. Fellis juice is sometimes mixed with other drinks for administration. For example, juice into wine for relief of joint-ale. However, Fellis can become addicting, and in large amounts, can be fatal.
- The colors of the Flowers are mentioned as being Pink in Dragonquest, whereas The Dragonlover's Guide to Pern says that they are yellow.
- The Dragondex appendix to Dragonquest says that Fellis Juice is obtained from the fruit of the Fellis Tree. According to The Dragonlover's Guide to Pern, Fellis juice is derived from boiling the stems and leaves of the Fellis Tree.
