Faroguy was the Lord Holder of High Reaches Hold late in the Eighth Interval. His wife was Lady Holder Evelene. Two of their twelve children were Farevene and Bargen. Their nephew was Fax.
Biography[]
Faroguy became Lord Holder of High Reaches Hold at an unknown point during the Eighth Interval. At some point, he married Evelene. Their early attempts at having children resulted in a number of miscarriages. Faroguy's nephew Fax was born during this time, and Faroguy became close to him. Mallan suggested that, since Faroguy and Fax resemble each other, it was always possible that Fax was Faroguy's son, not his nephew. Eventually, Faroguy and Evelene had twelve children, including two sons, Farevene and Bargen. Farevene came to be considered heir to High Reaches.
As Lord Holder, Faroguy eventually granted Fax his own holding. Since Fax's Valley holdings at High Reaches Hold appeared to be so much more profitable under Fax's management than they had been under the previous holder, Faroguy had little reason to question his methods, not knowing that they were obtained by whippings and threats of eviction. In addition, Faroguy did not intervene when Fax refused to have his holders educated by harpers. Faroguy's resulting preference for Fax did not make Faroguy very popular with the other Lord Holders. However, Fax was not considered a threat to rule High Reaches due to the presence of Faroguy's two sons.
Faroguy attended a confirmation at Benden Hold, alongside Farevene and Fax. Fax silently noted to Journeyman Harper Robinton that there may be a need for another confirmation soon. Faroguy was noted to be in ill health, and was eventually diagnosed with a condition of the blood for which there was no cure for a man his age.
Faroguy eventually died of his condition. However, since it took so long for his death to be confirmed, it was thought that Fax might have been involved, both with Faroguy's death and the recent problems with High Reaches holders who had been seeking sanctuary outside the hold. In the aftermath of the death, Farevene reportedly died in a duel, while Bargen went missing. Fax took over High Reaches, but was never formally confirmed.
Personality[]
As Lord Holder, Lord Faroguy was noted to be incisive and efficient, and there was little that went on in the hold that he did not know about. When not carrying out formal duties, Faroguy was mild, gracious, and inoffensive. His major flaw was a blind spot in regard to the activities of his nephew Fax. He did not question Fax's methods, and did not require Fax to have his holders educated by Harpers.
