The Dragonriders of Pern board game was created in 1983 by Mayfair Games. It is based on Anne McCaffrey's book series Dragonriders of Pern.
The second printing of the Dragonriders of Pern board game was in 1989.
The game features cards with Pern characters and locations. There are picture cards for Weyrleaders, Craftsmasters and major Holders. And of course, a map of Pern. Artists are David B. Bromley, Jim Clouse, Tim Hildebrandt, Michael Whelan and Robin Wood.
It is set in the time of F'lar and Lessa, after the Oldtimers came forward.
The game presents the struggle among the leaders of the six different Weyrs to be recognized as the leader of Pern. Each player competes with the others for the support of the Lord Holders while simultaneously keeping Pern free of Thread. Players can gain allies and bribe others.
The object is to save Pern from Thread with the resources that you have. Each player has a certain number of flights of dragons to cover their area, and the amount of coverage makes it easier or harder for Thread to spread. If the northern continent of Pern has been so Threaded that it cannot support life, then all the players lose, along with Pern.
The board game is now quite rare (complete with all contents).
