Benelek was a Master technician and woodsmith early in the Ninth Pass.
Biography[]
Born at Fort Hold, Benelek was the fifth son of Lord Groghe. During the eleventh turn of the Ninth Pass he had an idea to improve a harvesting implement. He then went to Telgar for special instruction and also talked one of the High Reaches' sons into joining him.
When Robinton, Fandarel, F'lar, F'nor, Jaxom, Lessa, Menolly and Piemur were all in the process of excavating the buried shuttles that Jaxom had found, Robinton told everyone he simply had to bring Benelek here, if no one else was to see it. F'nor thought it might be a good idea for Benelek to look over the controls by the doors and perhaps investigate the rear of the ship.
In the early Aivas days, Benelek watched Master Wansor's presentation of star charts.
While everyone was busy learning about Aivas and setting up the computer related systems that Aivas requested, Benelek was selected, along with Piemur and Jancis, to assemble keyboards. Benelek became quite adept at soldering broken connections. When they finished with the keyboards, they moved on to resurrecting the other units that had been retrieved from the Catherine Caves.
After learning all he could about Aivas's terminals and being elected first Master of the Technical Hall, then setting up his own crafthall, Benelek kept the Aivas machinery running after Aivas shut itself down.
Personality and Traits[]
Anytime Benelek was given a diagram or a machine, or even assorted parts of a machine, he would spend days trying to figure out what it was supposed to be or do. Generally he could make a full machine work, even if he had to dismantle the whole thing to find out why it wasn’t operating.
At a recent gather Benelek told Tagetarl that he was experimenting with an electrically heated kettle.
